COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland baseball head coach Rob Vaughn announced the program's 2022 schedule on Wednesday, which features a strong non-conference slate against RPI Top-50 opponents: Baylor, Campbell, Dallas Baptist, East Carolina, and Virginia Commonwealth. 

Maryland, which was ranked last season for the first time since 2017, begins its 129th season in 2022. The Terrapins will play a total of 25 games at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium, including four against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. 

"One of the best parts about playing baseball at the University of Maryland is the opportunity to play one of the best schedules in all of college baseball," Vaughn said. "We're really excited to get back to playing some non-conference opponents in the regular season after playing just Big Ten opponents last year. The two trips to Texas where we'll play Baylor and Dallas Baptist will be an especially great test for our team. The Big Ten is once again one of the preeminent conferences in the entire country, and we look forward to competing for a conference championship in front of our amazing fans at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. February can't come soon enough!"

Maryland returns a plethora of talent from last year's NCAA tournament team, headlined by second-team All-Big Ten outfielder Chris Alleyne. Pitcher Nick Dean returns to College Park, having sported the best ERA among all the team's starting pitchers a year ago.

Last year's freshman class for the Terps featured three Big Ten All-Freshman team members in second baseman Matt Shaw, catcher Luke Shliger, and pitcher Jason Savacool. Shaw was also named a Perfect Game Second Team Freshman and to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team.

The team also added incoming transfers Nick Lorusso (Villanova), Drew Grace (Kentucky), and Nick Robinson (Rhode Island).

The Terps will play 14 games against teams that finished in the top-50 in the RPI in 2021 (No. 13 East Carolina, No. 30 Virginia Commonwealth, No. 37 Campbell, No. 41 Dallas Baptist, No. 47 Baylor), and 17 games will be played against 2021 RPI Top-100 teams. 

The Terps open the season in Waco, TX, taking on the Baylor Bears (Feb. 18-20). Maryland will then return to College Park for their home opener against the UMBC Retrievers (Feb. 22) before traveling to Campbell for a three-game series (Feb. 25-27).  

After a game against Delaware (Mar. 1), Maryland will travel to Greenville, North Carolina, for a matchup against East Carolina (Mar. 4-6). Last year, the Pirates finished 44-17 and advanced to the Super Regional after defeating the Terps in the Regional.

Home and home games against VCU will take place on Mar. 8 and Mar 9., followed by home matchups against Georgetown and Cornell (Mar. 11-12). Road tilts against Georgetown (Mar. 13) and Delaware (Mar. 15) follow, with a doubleheader against Siena on Mar. 19 and a series finale against the Saints on Mar. 20. The Terps will then travel to UMBC for a midweek matchup on Mar. 22.

The Terps will take a spring break road trip as they'll return to the Lone Star State to clash with Dallas Baptist for a three-game series (Mar. 25-27). 

After returning home for brief matchups against Towson (Mar. 29) and at George Mason (Mar. 30), Maryland will open Big Ten play against Penn State to begin the month of April (1-3). Only two more home contests against George Mason (Apr. 5) and Navy (Apr. 6) remain before the team starts its conference road slate against Minnesota (Apr. 8-10).

Maryland's conference home slate, including Penn State, will be against Ohio State (Apr. 15-17), Northwestern (Apr. 29-May 1st), and Michigan (May 13-15). Along with Minnesota, the Terps will travel to Illinois (Apr. 22-24), Rutgers (May 6-8), and Purdue (May 19-21).

The final home game of the season comes against James Madison on May 17. 

The Big Ten Tournament will take place at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., May 24-29, with the NCAA Regionals taking place June 3-5. Game times will be announced when television broadcasts designations are announced.
