New York-based dance company Abraham.In.Motion, led by 2014 MacArthur Fellow Kyle Abraham, will facilitate a pre-performance workshop for LGBTQ community members before the company presents their dance work Dearest Home at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on February 23-24, 2017. The pre-performance workshop will be held in the UMD's LGBT Equity Center (2218 Marie Mount Hall) Wednesday, Feb 21st at 5:30pm.
The workshop invites participants to recall, contemplate, and discuss their experiences of Love, Longing, and Loss through a series of activities, which include: writing love letters, mapping memories of love through guided visualization and drawing, creating love mix tapes, and more. Participants from ALL generations & backgrounds who identify as LGBTQIA+ are encouraged to attend.
The workshop is free to all participants. Those who attend are offered discounted tickets to the performance, and are invited to a reception immediately following the Friday night performance (and post-performance discussion) with the artists and fellow workshop participants, where everyone can reflect on their entire engagement experience, from pre-show to post-show.
