Mission: Dialogues on Deliberation are designed to inspire students to talk to other students about their participation in public life.

The event—Dialogues on Deliberation and Demagoguery—will ask undergraduate students to reflect together on the ways in which their daily communication habits and social practices contribute to or challenge a culture of demagoguery. Participants will also brainstorm strategies for promoting healthier deliberation practices individually and culturally.

The dialogues will address the guiding assumptions and principles in Dr. Patricia Roberts-Miller’s first-year book: Demagoguery and Democracy. Dr. Roberts-Miller will be present to lead students and participate in the dialogues.

*Participating students are expected to familiarize themselves with Dr. Roberts-Miller’s arguments in advance of the dialogues. Please bring a copy of the book Demagoguery and Democracy to the event.*
