Dr. Fischell Bioengineering Talk
Dr. Robert Fischell, one of the major founders and benefactors of UMD's Fischell Department of Bioengineering, is coming to speak to UMD Bioengineering students on Thursday, October 19th from 6:30-7:30pm (CHE2108). There will be opportunity for Q&A after his talk and food will be provided. If you think you will join us, please fill out this by October 18th (at noon) so we can get an attendance estimate!

Throughout his career, Dr. Fischell has invented countless life-saving medical technologies. His most famous medical device inventions include medical stents, lifetime pacemaker batteries, implantable insulin pumps, and a responsive neural stimulator. Dr. Fischell has founded over 6 companies and holds more than 200 patents. He has been recognized for his distinguished career through his receiving of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation (awarded by President Obama in May 2016), Ted Prize (2005), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Technical Council of Maryland (2016) among many other prestigious awards.

Seniors: Please note that Dr. Fischell will be giving a talk during capstone this semester so you have an opportunity to hear from him and ask questions then. You are still welcome to attend this event if you would like.
Everyone: There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions to Dr. Fischell after and throughout the talk. He is a great resource to find out more about bioengineering, creating medical devices, and entrepreneurship.
