GIS Workshops Fall 2014
University of Maryland students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend Geographic Information Systems (GIS) workshops provided by the University of Maryland Libraries.
Each session is limited to 25 participants and takes place in one 2 1/2 hour session. Please pick the workshop and time and date that you would like to attend by checking the box that corresponds.

Workshop Descriptions
Workshop 1 Introduction to GIS
Prerequisite: Familiarity with Microsoft Windows.
In this workshop, you will learn the basics of GIS and practice with GIS software in a hands-on environment. You will learn basic symbology and labeling, how to query, and how to create a map layout.
Thursday, May 7 at 9:30 am-12:00 pm McKeldin Library, Room 6101
Workshop 2 Data Management
Prerequisite: Completion of Introduction to GIS or familiarity with ArcGIS.
This workshop goes into detail about the types of data used in a GIS and how to find and evaluate data for your needs. You will learn to join and relate tables and to geocode.
Monday, May 11 at 9:30 am - 12:00 pm McKeldin Library, Room 6101
Workshop 3 Spatial Analysis
Prerequisite: Completion of Data Management or familiarity with ArcGIS.
In this workshop, you will learn five of the most common tools used in GIS analysis and perform geoprocessing on both vector and raster data.
