Ryland Named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland senior kicker Chad Ryland has been named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Ryland was a perfect 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts in Maryland's 37-0 win over Rutgers on Saturday. The senior kicker had a long field goal of 46 yards and made all four extra point tries in the Terps victory.

Ryland ends the regular season having made 16 of his 20 field goal attempts (80%). He connected on 13 of his 14 field goal attempts inside 50 yards. Ryland also ranks first in the Big Ten and second nationally with three field goal makes of 50 or more yards.

Prior to Ryland, the last Terp to earn Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors was kicker Joseph Petrino on Sept. 20, 2021 after he kicked a game-winning field goal to give Maryland a 20-17 win at Illinois.

Maryland finished its regular season 7-5 overall to garner bowl eligibility for the second straight season. The Terps will learn their bowl opponent and destination on Sunday, Dec. 4.
