COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland baseball head coach Rob Vaughn announced the program's 2023 schedule on Tuesday, as the program looks towards its 130th season. The 2023 slate features another strong non-conference schedule against RPI Top-50 opponents: Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.
 
Maryland, which finished the season ranked No. 9 in RPI, is coming off its best regular season in school history, winning a program-record 48 games along with their first-ever Big Ten Regular-Season Championship. It was the program's first conference title of any kind in 51 years. The Terps will play a total of 27 games at the friendly confines of Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in 2023, the site of last season's College Park Regional.
 
"Year in and year out, we attempt to put a schedule together that primes us for the postseason" said Vaugn. "That is exactly what we have this year. We go on the road the first three weeks and challenge ourselves against NCAA Regional caliber teams -- and last years National Champion. Our conference slate is full of great teams and will challenge us week in and week out. This year schedule is about as tough as we've ever played here at Maryland, and I'm looking forward to watching our boys compete through it."
 
Maryland returns six players, Jason Savacool, Nick Lorusso, Matt Shaw, Kevin Keister, Luke Shliger and Nick Dean, who received All-Big Ten honors last season.
 
The team also added incoming transfers Matt Woods (Bryant), Elijah Lambros (South Carolina), Tommy Kane (Rowan), Eddie Hacopian (Cypress College) and Nate Haberthier (Ohio State).
 
Maryland did not lose a single Big Ten series last season, winning at least two of three games against each conference foe that they faced in 2022. The Terps also showed incredible dominance at home, winning a program record 27 games at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
 
The Terps open the season in Tampa, Fla, taking on South Florida (Feb. 17-19) coming off of their 2021 Super Regional appearance. Maryland will then return to College Park for their home opener against West Virginia (Feb. 21).
 
Maryland travels to Oxford, Miss. for a three-game series against reigning National Champions Ole Miss (Feb. 24-26). This will be the first matchup between the two teams since 2015, when Maryland claimed a 3-1 victory in the Los Angeles NCAA Regional. The overall series record stands at 1-1.
 
The Terps return home to face Delaware (Feb. 28), before traveling to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Cambria College Classic hosted by Minnesota (Mar. 3-5) at U.S. Bank Stadium. Maryland will face Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss during the three-day B1G/SEC Challenge series. Vanderbilt finished last season at No. 7 in RPI and last won the NCAA Championship in 2019.
 
A home game against UMBC will begin on Mar. 7, followed by a home series against Maine (Mar. 10-12). The Terps travel to Delaware (Mar. 14) and then welcome Albany (Mar. 17-19) for a three-game series in College Park. Maryland will then see George Washington (Mar. 21) for a midweek matchup.
 
The Terps will take a spring break road trip as they'll travel to Orlando to battle with Central Florida for a three-game series (Mar. 24-26). The Knights finished top-100 in RPI last season and qualified for the NCAA Tallahassee Regional as recently as 2017.
 
After returning home for a brief matchup against Georgetown (Mar. 28), Maryland will open Big Ten play at Iowa to take the Terps into April (Mar 31-Apr 2). Only one home contest against William & Mary (Apr. 4) remains before the Big Ten home opener against Rutgers (Apr. 7-9).
 
Maryland's conference home slate, including Rutgers, will be against Purdue (Apr. 21-23), Nebraska (May 5-7), and Minnesota (May 12-14). Along with Iowa, the Terps will travel to Ohio State (Apr. 14-16), Indiana (April 28-30), and Penn State (May 18-20).
 
The Big Ten Tournament will take place at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb., May 24-28. Game times will be announced when television broadcasts designations are announced.
